Nia

From the genesis of this site I have not directly featured any of my own poetry. I feel that I owe it to my readers, fans, and friends to do so because this site represents the culmination of all of my artistic efforts. I can think of no better way to reintroduce my poetry to everyone than to reprise the poem “Nia”. Longtime readers, fans, and friends know Nia from my second poetry book “Word Bending…” that was published shortly after my arrival in Fayetteville, NC. Since then Nia has had a recurring roll in my post on Facebook and other media platforms as the “intangible object of my affection”. Nia was a part of the transformation and new understanding of life that I took on after my failed marriage. During those times she represented an oasis in my desert of loneliness and grief. It is befitting that she reoccurs here and now since I am once again experiencing major changes in my life and moving back to my hometown of Atlanta, Ga soon. She also indirectly represents an artistic marker. If you analyze the original poem “Nia” and the reprise of “Nia”, titled “A New Note for Nia [Nia is…]”, you see an artistic growth and change in my style, tone, and demeanor. You also see a maturation in my understanding of the world and the things in it, specifically Nia’s chosen profession. Please enjoy and as always leave feedback.

A New Note for Nia

[Nia is…]

Nia is

a dream weaver
a fantasy
a showman of sorts

a special person’s special person
a queen of the court

she is an entertainer
a performer
fascinating those
in search of a show
She is a purveyor
of pomp and circumstance
mesmerizing all that
dare to behold

She is a vixen
a wet dream incarnate
the focus of the
unfocused preacher
she is appropriately inappropriate
the treasure of every seeker

She is a friend
a confidant
for 5 minutes at a time
skipping from life to life
helping those in need
leave their troubles behind

She is undoubtedly
the epitome
of Je ne sais quoi
she’ll take you
where ever you want to be
and only leave you, in awe

now tell me
isn’t that grand?
aren’t her services worth
the nominal fee?
Is there anything else
that can give you
such an experience
legally?

I think not!
Therefore, I do not regret
a red scent spent.
I am much obliged for her time,
talents, and honored to have
held her attention.
